Coaches of Tempe Junior Crew
Lucas Duncan, Head Coach and Program Director
Lucas began rowing as a sophomore in high school at Marin Rowing Association. With Marin, his team medaled in races as prestigious as the Head of the Charles, Southwest Regional Championships, and Junior National Championship. He retired after competing in England at the Royal Henley Regatta in 2001.
After rowing with the masters program on Tempe Town Lake, Lucas worked as an assistant coach with TJC for two years. During his time with TJC, he participated in setting the foundation for some amazing successful TJC athletess, including Erin Crawford, Andrew Gallagher, and Sophie Heywood.
Lucas is a current rower with the Rio Salado Crew Club and is excited about building the TJC program as well as rowing competitively.
Meinhard Hausleitner, Sculling Technique Coach
Meinhard started rowing when he was 17
years old. A few highlights of his rowing career include being a a 12-time national champion for the Austrian National team in the single and double between 1980 and 1985. He finished 7th place in the single at Lightweight World Championships in Montreal 1984 and Munich 1985. As a member of the Thames Rowing club, he was a British national champion in the Lightweight Open Quad in 1996.
He returned to rowing in 2010 as part of the Greenwich Crew. He earned gold in the Masters Nationals in the Mens 40+ quad and mixed 40+ Quad. He earned silver is the Mixed Double 40+ and Club Eight.
This year, he rowed with Rio Salado Crew Club and, at the Southwest Masters Regionals, he finished first in the Masters Double 50+ and second in the Masters Mixed Quad, Mixed Double and Single.
He is participating in the 2011 Head of the Charles with his former Austrian double partner and in the Directors Mix quad with members from the Greenwich Crew.
Meinhard’s experience complements the coaching team and will be beneficial in honing the sculling technique of the TJC rowers.
