Club Update from Jon Wainwright, TJC President

August 2, 2010

Dear TJC Rowers and Parents:

The Tempe Junior Crew Board of Directors along with Coach Dan have been working fast and furiously to present you with our TJC Fall Season schedule in light of Tempe Town Lake temporarily being unavailable. The great news is that we definitely have a fall program with land workouts, open water workouts, three regattas open to all rowers which are Head of the Oklahoma, Head of the Hooch and a return to the popular Long Beach Christmas Regatta, as well as the Head of the Charles for select rowers! The calendar is available here for your information. Land workouts will continue to be at the boathouse as usual and open water workouts will be on select weekends at both Lake Pleasant here in the Valley as well as Lake Mary in Flagstaff! Coach Dan has experience with both of these lakes and has had to shift practices there in years past when there were issues with Tempe Town Lake. He is well connected with the procedures and contacts at both of those lakes and has it all set up with both of those entities. On the weeks where there are open water workouts, the land workouts during the week will be cut down to three days. We are looking to substantially cut our fee schedule for the fall to help redistribute funds for travel to the respective lakes. We will be looking into affordable lodging in Flagstaff so if you have any connections or know people with homes in Flagstaff or Munds Park who would be willing to help out our rowers, please email Kari Redman at kari.redman@dcranch.com.

We are very excited to be able to make this offering and between the Lake Pleasant and Lake Mary workouts and the regattas, the rowers will be on the water as much if not more than in the regular Fall Season and will be a great bonding time for these athletes. If Tempe Town Lake gets back up and running sooner than anticipated, the practice schedule will be shifted back to the normal schedule.

The TJC Booster Club will be getting Fall Registration information out to all of you in the very near future. Also, please communicate with Coach Dan as soon as possible to let him know if you will be rowing for TJC this fall for planning purposes.

It is likely we will not be adding any novice rowers to the Fall Season only and we will begin ”Learn To Rows” as soon as Tempe Town Lake reopens.

While we expect some challenges this year due to the situation with Tempe Town Lake, the good news is all of our equipment is paid for, we have no debt and have money in the bank, so we fully expect to continue to offer a wonderful rowing experience to our athletes!

On behalf of the Tempe Junior Crew Board of Directors, I would like to thank Coach Duxbury for his diligent and creative time and effort put into making this all possible! If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at 602-820-8566 or jonwain22@cox.net and I will be happy to be of assistance.

Best regards,
Jon Wainwright
TJC Board of Directors President
